consume less stuff

recycle your trash and recycle your government, is one of many good and environmental-friendly advices on storyofstuff.com.

the story of stuff - consume smarter, consume less

i found the site through toothlesstiger.net - run by henriette weber, who advocates no noise marketing, and encourages businesses to embrace the chaos of personal relationships, instead of relying on traditional ad campaigns.

consume less! is the message. this will be top-of-mind once i start to build noochi’s product catalogue. consuming smarter is equal to consuming less. and to add a little zen to this: Coming empty-handed, going empty-handed — that is human. (thank you, mr. lee, for the article. i will try not to mis-use the concept of zen again, but it is such a lovely, lovely word)

trashy tees

through artebels’ guestbook i found another artrebels admirer with a sweet, cool looking shop named thrashprint. the maker, hekla, chose the hard coding way, it seems… (shirtcity should offer her a very well-paid job… tim, are you listening?). the shop reminds me of something that my fellow students and myself would only allow ourselves to dream of, when studying human computer science in the mid- to late 90′es. now, however, i am less certain this shop can carry through. i am impressed with the skill and creativity though. take a look and make yourself a trashy tee.

artrebels.com - very cool!
i found artrebels.com through my detective work on basco 5. i can’t believe i’ve missed this. this is one really nice big loaf of bread in the oven! i do not spend my time right (i am quite certain i have friends of friends in this self-proclaimed movement). that’s my conclusion. very thought through, very well carried out. the best of luck, fun and success to artrebels. i am full of awe and respect!

Big head thomas - by woodybrown

big head thomas realizes he can float - woodybrown.dk
ungdomskultur.nu is a very nice initiative. and had a very good atmosphere. only point of critique is that i recognized a drawing style signed with the name basco 5 as the maker of my eco-friendly street art darling in west end, and felt like i was a 100 years old… and fascinated by young art in a very old way. basco 5’s street art is no secret i am realizing, and i feel extremely uncool having written one of my former posts. i suck as an art reviewer. i am fully able to enjoy it though! the grass is always greener

and huskmitnavn at v1. most of the pieces were already sold at the “vip opening”… how street wise is that?

huskmitnavn - purple pants huskmitnavn - puch maxi driver with dog
huskmitnavn - boy with hulahopring my favorite at the exhibition - a hair dresser makes his customer look just like himself

i have just returned from the magnificant goa. the poverty and the corruption is as cruel as the beaches, nature, and people are amazing and full of grace. people have so little, and therefore become brilliant - as they have to unleash all of their talents and creativity to survive. and though sometimes cheeky, and sometimes using semi-manipulating storytelling to obtain full sales impact, people are honest, open and full of trust. i have never before seen such charming national traits. man power is so easily found and people are hungry for work. waiters working from 7 in the morning till 11 at night every day of the week make as little as 100 rupees (app 3$) per day and often are not allowed to keep tips. a fisher man or field worker make as little as 25 rupees per day. and mind you; this is in goa where indians from all over the country come to work, as tourism = money is mainly to be found here. the opportunities for win-win situations seem endless. we (ab fab o and yours truly) want to do good. make good people rich. help if we can.

i want to go back to goa asap
ab fab o took these pictures.
this little business in the sand (decorate a cardboard box, place it in the sand and you’re in business) as shown on photo above inspired me to think that noochi should have an indian corner (and a theme corner from anywhere that i travel to, really). the next time i go, i will bring a laptop and upload photos of nice handicrafts for sale for as long as i am there. i will simply ship the goods on location, and thus not have to worry about storage or anything. how cool would that be. total zen!
