concept - 2nd take
i have so much talent and power around me, and i have so much talent and power within me. i have realized that my time life is best spent unleashing the potentials of others and myself, by setting a great agenda: i want to build a successful online business, based on:
| 1) | wonderful unique specimens and niche productions made by friends, family and any other talent mass noochi sees fit |
| 2) | critically selected peoples’ critically selected product portfolios |
noochi will team up with very select (fully established) brick-and-mortar shops to become a portal with multiple administrators (i have the perfect first mover candidate in mind). the shop owners get a great web presence (they can redirect whatever domains they might have) and a fully functional shop for free. i will invite a max of 2-5 funky shops from each country to ensure that noochi will not be any average online shopping arcade, and to ensure that the shops don’t risk to merely cannibalize their local markets.
each shop has a very cool style of its own, and a great mix of quality brands as well as niche productions, art, vintage or unique specimens. products can range from clothes to art to food to gadgets to furniture - the style is the limit; i want funkiness! i haven’t swallowed a forget-who-you-are-pill; the ab fab o is an ab fab expert in spotting what is cool - he can help me pick the right shops in each city/ country/ continent (which would, btw, make any trip we make tax-deductable), and my stylish friends will make an excellent focus group. Along with a brilliant IT-partner, I will provide a super-cool web presence, and a fully functional web shop that reflects each individual brand. for free. and i will market the shops in a very efficient, cool and creative manner at no cost. the right candidate brick-and-mortar shops will in return:
| 1) | be owned by good, trustworthy AND funky people that give me the best of gutt feelings |
| 2) | have a local fan crowd and a solid network |
| 3) | have products in a high quality and/or with cool-factor. and the product range put together, will have a unique style and a great personality |
| 4) | have pricing that fits the categories: “low-budget”, “steady income” and “excessive” |
| 5) | maintain a current and funky web shop, and handle the administration and shipping of their own goods |
each could showcase (for example) 200 products at a time (i don’t know what is “normal”) and have a price range from 5-5000$. since there is a huge turnover on (particularly) fashion (clothes, accessories, interior design), and since noochi carries all the risk in establishing and marketing the shop, noochi gets (for example) 25% of what’s sold. noochi will be the umbrella under which all these funky shops from around the world stays warm and dry and successful.
side by side with the shops, noochi will have a “talents’ corner” and a “theme corner”.
talents’ corner
i need room for talented friends, and i need a platform for local excellence that no one else has spotted and marketed yet. i like to spot talent, i like to help talent grow, i am good at making people believe in themselves, and i am good at making noise. i want to use this talent! the talent’s corner will further add exclusivity and funkiness to noochi, and help brand the well-established shops under noochi’s umbrella, by associating them with rising stars.
theme corner
the theme corner will showcase select products from places that i travel to - for only a short period of time. i want to be able to grow my business from everywhere, and i don’t want to miss out on any great deals, if they fit noochi. further, the theme corner will ensure an opportunity for cross-marketing amongst the different noochi shops, and so make it easier to stay loud when/ if the noochi shops are momentarily quiet.
where is the heart then?
although i have taken the element of friendship out of the core equation of noochi’s business foundation, i still very much depend on my beautiful, gifted, ass-kicking friends, for this project to succeed. noochi remains a business with a great, bleeding, pounding, warm heart. this will be reflected in any business partner noochi engages with, and also by raising funds for charity, as well as by offering a platform for talents to unfold themselves.
noochi & friends solely carry the risk (investing time and money in the platform, the payment module and the marketing) - there is no risk of financial loss involved for shop owners and talents, but they will have to invest time and commitment. noochi is open for co-ownership with brilliant entrepreneurs and web developers.
known problems with this concept:
| 1) | i have already eliminated the first problem that the ab fab o spotted; establishment fee/ subscription. by eliminating these, noochi can take a fair percentage of what’s sold, and it will still be a “no cure - no pay”-model that will make it a lot easier to attract business partners. |
| 2) | i need a very talented and hard-working developer or web agency that i really click with, to invest blood, sweat and tears (aka precious time) in this portal with me - a partner, who will see the great potential and stick with it. |
| 3) | carla, artrebels founder and one-of-a-kind business role model, said that: good shops are good at predicting how much they will sell - if they add an online store, prediction becomes impossible |
| 4) | she also said that shipping costs will be a big problem. if people want, say, jeans from london, a hat from goa, and a pair of shoes from denmark, they will have to pay huge shipping costs, receive 3 different packages (which could suck big time if each time they have to go to the post office to pick it up) |
| 5) | as a customer you are entitled to refund any items you have bought (within 2 weeks, i think?), and it would suck, to have to return things to 3 different addresses (not to mention countries or even continents) |
| 6) | related to point 4. and 5., cross-marketing and upsales/ package deals between the shops is made difficult due to the added shipping expenses. this may just have to be part of the charm… or else noochi will have to pay for shipping, or provide some kind of added value to each individual shipment (surprise gifts in each shipment, and/ or some kind of loyalty program). |
if you can think of a solution to any of these challenges, or if you see further obstacles for me to get this project flying, please don’t hesitate to share.
