lyrical pictures from the urban treasure hunt by rumkammerat
once again, i commend rumkammerat for the urban treasure hunt. the delay in following up is due to 2 things; i didn’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone planning to attend while it was still going on, and i have been offline for a week (felt fine). although slaughtered at post 9 (out of 14) by a visual riddle on a higher level than what could be faced by the joint intellect of co-hunter ab fab o and yours truly, we truly enjoyed the hunt… (at the time it was also getting cold and dark and the craving for a frozen yogurt from birkegade overwhelmed us). i have searched the net for similar arrangements, but didn’t find any. i’ve found tourist attraction treasure hunts (which is quite common and also a fun and educational fine idea) and photographic treasure hunts, but nothing like this. will make it a tradition to attend - and will start earlier next year, and let nothing stop me to go through successfully.tags:, ,

street art treasure hunt

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

i have never been one to appreciate the concept of hunting, but here is a hunt that i will definately attend! rumkammerat - copenhagen art collective that i’ve previously praised - is hosting a street art treasure hunt (for the second time) here in copenhagen. it starts at 500 year old ruin jarmers tower, located in the centre of copenhagen, and moves on to 14 posts in the city centre and nørrebro. i have a strong feeling that the treasure may be rumkammerat itself, since their newsletter explains that you can follow the hunt night and day from this friday and until august 1, but that the treasure itself is only accessible between 12-17. rumkammerat boasts visual riddles, a swarm of bees, and dog poo as part of the fun. look for an orange square with a number in it - and write down each number as you move along.

the treasure hunt is a celebration of the great street art of copenhagen. on august 1, rumkammerat celebrates the opening of their pink army exhibition (sweet/ cool/ silly web site). and while you visit rumkammerat - why not buy a bed bug or a kissmama tee or a DIY do it yourself street art kit?

reverse graffiti

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

this is hip, baby (or it was in 2003, but now i am realizing it too)! reverse graffiti. all you need is a dirty facade and some eco-friendly cleaning agents… and you can bring nature (or whatever) back into the streets. it is not even against the law (although the british authorities have had their doubts).

reverse graffitti - actually cleaning away dirt - in san francisco

skulls are also 'green'

found on inhabitat through my best web buddy stumble. graffiti nowadays is also made out of moss… and i also stumbled upon another artsy dirt lover… (the infamous car tag: “wash me” is likely where the inspiration to reverse graffiti arose). if you like these, you are welcome to check what other good stuff i am happily stumbling upon.tags:, ,

new klondyke cd out today

Monday, May 19th, 2008

mikael k - as portrayed by his hot'n spicy girlfriend janne søndergaard :-)

klondyke’s new cd dejlig dum (delightfully daft) is available in record stores from today! as a very privileged fan with a signed copy (playing as i type) i thought i would let you know that you should air your credit card in this connection. i am no music reviewer, but i consider it my duty to inform you that klondyke’s new album goes well with any activity, besides dedicated listening which i highly recommend! from entertaining guests, to blogging, cleaning, showering, getting ready, getting up, getting down, you name it. any activity! this makes it an extremely safe investment in my book. listen on myspace.

be cool, be hip - buy it before your most trendy neighbors do.tags:,

6 billion others + inflatable dog

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

this man has been married for 24 years - and fell in love with his wife 2 years ago!
6billionothers is the most heart-warming site i’ve seen in a long time (thank you, ab fab o, for sending!). it beats postsecret by far. yann arthus-bertrand has interviewed people from all over the world (while photographing the earth from above), about their thoughts and feelings towards life, love, death, joy, childhood, fears and hopes. do not click the images unless you have at least an hour to spend with these beautiful people of the world…

people from all over the world share their deepest hopes, fears and dreams

i do not want to die

with no comparison to the site above, as this is a different genre, the wooster collective that celebrates cool street art, excites me. see for example this inflatable dog (i want to experiment with some plastic in my own hood. it so beautifully illustrates that less is more) or go to wooster collective’s site to see more cool and moving works of art.

inflatable dog - the coolest dog i have ever seen!!!

rumkammerat - artist's collective, exhibitions and shop
tipped by my saturday night companionship, rock’n'roll camilla, i became aware of another artsy shop and artists collective: rumkammerat (a sweeter danish word for room mates). It is cool, it is hip, it is sweet… and in some ways it is along the lines of what i had in mind for noochi to begin with. so why doesn’t it rock (the shop part, that is)? 1) you can’t see how to buy and 2) the selection isn’t big enough 3) you can’t really tell how cool the products are… take this lovely piece, for example:

Biler gir kusse (med hår) - Danish for cars equal pussy (hairy ones)

this is made by a rumkammerat named rune drewsen. it is a silk laminated foil on a 6 mm black plastic board. it won some kind of honour in 2007, measures 100×80 centimeters, and is priced DKK 5000,00 (1000$). i immediately liked this piece, but i don’t get enough info to buy it. i would like a picture of the full thing, not just the motive, and i would like a picture of someone standing next to it. i would also appreciate a bit of info on the artist. to write these lines i had to google twice, as there were no links to the artist nor the honour he received. this “honour” isn’t interesting in itself, but it is nice to have some kind of story to a work of art… great art sells itself, but great art with a story to it, sells more. this is, at least, the thesis i would like to put to the test.

rumkammerat also sells street artist kissmama’s sweet plasters on pieces of cardboard for 35 danish kroner = 7$ (also exhibited at ungdomskultur.nu and here). check out his site, it is very sweet!
kissmama.dk - sweet web site worth a click
i will definately make my way to rumkammerat’s exhibition rooms here in copenhagen asap, and get a fuller picture of what they do, and of what’s for sale. will return with an update.

the more artsy web shops i check out, the more i realize that i need to do something else. the common denominator for the shops i’ve recently checked out - artrebels, thrashprint and rumkammerat is that the shop owners produce themselves. this, i believe, is their real drive and motivation. i have to make a living from noochi to be able to unleash it, which requires a much more commercial aspect. yet without compromising the core of the concept; to do good, to promote good people and good products, real talent, good art, and to have fun and full freedom of movement.tags:, , ,
