Love your enemy, accomplished

Alpha & Omega Portal, Christianskirken, Fredericia, Bjørn Nørgaard, 2015-19

I finally experienced the Portal. Alpha & Omega. Masterpiece by Bjørn Nørgaard for the Christian’s Church in Fredericia, Denmark. I love the Spirals! LOVE! Feet. The screw! The Selection. The execution. The inherit triangles.

The Portal completes the work You shall love your enemy (Du skal elske din fjende), which consists of glass mosaic and a superior altar piece of the Supper. My huge expectatoioons were fully met. I am Enthused. Full of gratitude towards the artist and the association who realised the work on what appears to be the Artist’s terms. I find it Sublime. As art and as church art. As an architectural grip. As an Association, Church and Society.

The Portal is opened by a light push on a magnificent button. The inside of the Gateway are mirrors scripted with select quotes from the Bible. It strangely strikes me as brave. My eye was caught first by gate 3, The revelation of John 3,8:

See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut

I love the combination of Greatness and Humor. That moves me. And so do the metallic mirror gates. How Wealthy we are. And how Equal. In this Portal and in the eyes of God.

Entrance

A beautiful, contemporary entrance to a church from 1931 which is further developed by its congregation. Larger than any one parish, the masterpiece by Bjørn Nørgaard conveys an obvious and beautiful opening for all. The work is first and foremost Loving and Merciful. It confirms my Hope for the Danish Folk Church. We eternal beginners are offered a great place to start or be strengthened.

Skyrocket

For the altar piece Supper, the vergers replace the bread of Jesus on a monthly basis and they pour more wine in His glass as the liquid evaporates. Organic matter and meaningful chores are intrinsic parts of the piece.

I shot only the photo above in all my awe.

I love the resurrection motive, it inspires my work too. Below is a photo from the church’s generous materials. See Nørgaards own documentation.
